Spring Season Wraps
Final results for the spring CGL:
In championships, the deep desire to win often spawns the element of surprise. That excitement in competition was evident again this spring season Competitive Giving League. At the end of day 5 of the 6 day competition, it seemed Essex Middle School had it in the bag with 1st, 2nd and 3rd places wrapped up. But coaches tell you, don’t stop playing til you hear the whistle, and that is exactly what Essex High School Softball did. Day 5, they were in 4th place. But today, they dug deep and called in the cavalry to claim 1st place overall. Congratulations to EHS Softball, the spring season champion. Congratulations too to Essex Middle School Softball who earned the title of our first middle school champion.
Two representatives from the Heavenly Food Pantry were on hand to present the winner’s trophy to EHS softball during halftime of the EHS boys’ Lacrosse today. Ben & Jerry’s will graciously provide ice cream parties to both winning teams. With 1,334 items donated this spring CGL contest, the total donations to Heavenly Food Pantry during this year’s three sport seasons is just over 3,700. That quantity is enough to provide close to 1,000 meals to a family of four. A special shout out goes to EHS ROTC. They asked to join in the competition last minute despite not being a “sports team”. Their mini-competition between the two ROTC classes netted 221 donation items. Fantastic! Thank you ROTC!
